Google Page Experience Update – Our Ultimate Guide

Google Page Experience Update – Our Ultimate Guide

What is it?

Google Page Experience Update.
There have been a variety of benchmarks essential to measuring and enhancing the user experience on the web, but what does this all actually mean?
Why is it so important that you should go out of your way to do it?
Well page experience is actually a huge concept of your webpages functionality if you aren’t following best practice then you aren’t going to improve your lead generation or conversion rate.

The aspects of page experience

The Google Page Experience Update will include all aspects of how online users interact with your website or web pages, and how easy or difficult it is for them to use it’s features and get from point A to B.

Google has announced that the page experience signals in ranking will roll out in May 2021. “The new page experience signals combine Core Web Vitals with our existing search signals including mobile-friendliness, safe-browsing, HTTPS-security, and intrusive interstitial guidelines.”

This includes already known strategies for SEO: Mobile-friendliness, safe-browsing, HTTPS and so on.

The Google Page Experience Update will also includes key metrics related to web performance, there are three main factors which are the main focus for this though: loading, interactivity and visual stability.

Loading, this measures the perceived loading speed of the website and when the main content is likely to have loaded.
Interactivity is the time the user spends on the web page as soon as it loads  – clicking a link or tapping a tab.
Visual stability is stopping irritating and unnecessary movement on the page.

Why it is important

The reason why the Google Page Experience Update metrics should be taken seriously by site owners and all those involved in optimization strategies to improve search rankings is that if your user experience is seen as being in the top bracket, Google will guide consumers and browsers to your page over the others.

Google is straightforward about the increased support they’re going to give to sites with a good page experience. As a flawless page experience lets users get more done and increases  overall engagement.

Pages that fall below the new benchmark are going to be outranked by the pages that do. This will mean a severe drop in traffic and overall page engagement.

Google already considers a variety of different aspects to determine its page rankings. The addition of the new page experience update allows them to guide users, so they can access information more easily.

For site owners understanding the need to implement this new policy and making the necessary changes to get it up and going should be a priority. Or else, you run the risk of your webpage being ignored. Which is the opposite of what you want.

The consequences of not optimizing your website for the Google Page Experience Update

  • Slow page speeds: It’s frustrating clicking on a search result and then having to wait ages for a page to load. The chance of your consumers dropping off the page because it hasn’t loaded is extremely high.
  • Bad structure and design: Pages that are confusing to navigate due to a number of reasons. The design is complex or just puzzling. There could be too many pop-ups, no content structure. Which will lead to an increased bounce rate overtime.
  • Lack of engagement. Today’s users want to have a web page that they can engage with, and that they can be entertained by. That’s why empathy and likability are major factors.
